Kevin Love: The Journey of a Champion and Mental Health Advocate
Kevin Love is more than just an NBA champion and five-time All-Star—he’s a symbol of perseverance, skill, and advocacy. From his early days as a dominating player in high school to winning an NBA championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers and becoming a leading voice in mental health awareness, Love’s journey is one of perseverance and purpose.
Early Life and Stardom in High School
Kevin Wesley Love was born on September 7, 1988, in Santa Monica, California. He inherited his love of basketball from his father, Stan Love, who was a leading NBA player in the 1970s. Since he was a young child, Kevin Love has been honing his basketball talents in the hopes of being as good as his idol, Wes Unseld.
Love attended Lake Oswego High School, where he dominated all the contests. His performances led the team to the state championship game multiple times, and he was named the 2007 Naismith Prep Player of the Year, confirming his standing as one of the top rookie in the country.
UCLA College Achievement
After being accepted to UCLA College, despite criticism from rival supporters, particularly Oregonians who were angry that he didn’t attend their home-state university, Love flourished during his rookie campaign. In 2008, he led UCLA to the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament. His dominance made it clear that he was ready for the NBA.
After one stellar season, Love entered the 2008 NBA Draft.
